Knowledge-intensive production with high added value, which focuses on innovation, increases the competitiveness of both companies and countries. In the World Economic Forum Competitiveness Report (2016-2017) ranks 138 countries in 55 areas of innovation research in order to come more to a superior position in Turkey's competitiveness, commercial product or service needs to convert.
The number of projects supported by patent applications and national programs lags behind Istanbul and Ankara in Izmir, where commercialization activities are insufficient according to R&D studies. The fact that support services such as technology licensing and product development provided by interface organizations have not reached the desired level and that internationalization is low are among the leading problems of the İzmir ecosystem. Izmir Technopark is carrying out the Izmir Commercialization Network and Innovation Center (ITAIM) Project in order to commercialize its R&D studies and respond to market needs. The industrial sector cooperates with SMEs in the project, which is intended to create more than one impact on different segments in İzmir Increasing the technology readiness of SMEs' products; Investors, on the other hand, are expected to achieve commercialization by accessing innovative products with market potential. With the establishment of strategic partnerships between SMEs, new entrepreneurs and interface organizations (technology transfer offices, technology development zones and R&D centers) within the center determined as the target audience of the project, it is aimed to internationalize the commercialized innovative products.
Focusing on the renewable energy sector with information and communication technologies, which are among the pioneers of economic development, the project improves the capacity of İzmir's innovation ecosystem with training, consultancy and networking activities. Supporting the innovative aspects of SMEs, which are desired to be powerful actors in the country, ITAIM helps to increase their export capacity in order to facilitate their access to international markets. In addition to all these, carrying the first of its kind in Turkey "NIC Hub" is software through training, consulting, services such as mentoring, offering services to SMEs through an online platform. Consisting of components such as call management, collaboration, patent management, matching and obstacle analysis for beneficiaries, NIC Hub becomes a digital meeting point for users.
Within the scope of ITAIM, the establishment of the structure such as 18 technology transfer offices, technology development zone, incubator and R&D center will be supported until the end of 2026. 100 SMEs and new entrepreneurs will benefit from these structures. Two calls will be designed to identify SMEs with products with commercialization potential, and 50 SMEs selected from focus sectors will receive support for commercialization and internationalization. As a result of the supports, the technology readiness level of at least one product will reach the market launch stage. Legal support will be provided for various activities, including obtaining 3 national patents and consultancy will be provided for the successful commercialization of 2 eco-innovative products.
İzmir Commercialization Network and Innovation Center will contribute to socio-economic development by bringing in İzmir a structure where innovation-oriented companies can access the consultancy they need and carry their research to the market stage.
