Leather industry is one of the economical values, influencing the economy of Uşak province. On the other hand, for the integration of the sector to the regional and international value chain, transformation to modern production methods is a necessity, since small cattle leather cannot be processed year-round and its market value is relatively low.
Whereas bovine leather has a wider market. Therefore focusing on bovine leather processing will not only strengthen the employment conditions in Uşak, but it will also increase the market share of the province. In brief, the main purpose of the Project is to contribute to the social-economic development of Uşak province by improving the competitiveness of SMEs operated in the leather sector.
As a beneficiary, Uşak Leather (Combined) Organized Industrial Zone (OIZ), has started works for the establishment of a common use facility, covering the cost of the construction from its own budget. The facility will provide with machines and equipments that SMEs cannot afford to buy. These machines and equipments which are suitable for bovine leather processing will only be used for the production of semi products.
Within the scope of the project, a cluster will also be established for the stakeholders of the leather sector. This cluster will among others facilitate the participation in both national and international networks.
