Technology Transfer Accelerator Fund Project – TTA Turkey was designed to support intellectual property-based projects, influenced by access to finance services. This project also includes the support the Venture Capital of start-ups, in return of their partnership. Our starting point was to connect entrepreneurs and investors by discovering Turkey’s technology-based researches and ideas. In the long term, we aim to increase the export of high technology through strengthening seed-stage venture capital system. Within the scope of this project, which was put in implementation at the end of 2015, the followings were aimed:
Establishing two TTA Turkey funds to invest in entrepreneurs for the commercialization of technology-based researches,
Triggering the development of technology transfer market by giving particular importance to its expansion especially in less developed or developing regions of Turkey and,
Supporting Technology Transfer Offices (TTO) in Turkey by increasing their competencies on commercialization of R&D researches so that they can play a successful interface role between industry and universities.
Two independent funds were established to provide the integration of technology-based enterprises to market. With the support of European Investment Fund, Netherland-based fund management firms called Diffusion Capital Partners (DCP) and ACT Venture Capital (ACT) invested in 62 enterprises with investment amounts ranging from 50 thousand Eurosto 2,5 million Euro. During the implementation phase of this project, more than 3000 ideas and works were evaluated. Among them 63 high technology projects/start-ups were found successful and 54 million Euro venture capital was provided for them. By the end of 2017; DCP Fund, with a total amount of 36,75 million Euro and ACT Fund, with a total amount of 25,5 million Euro, had invested in 36 project/start-ups, and 27 project/startups respectively. TTA – Turkey Project aimed to fill the gap between the market and R&D development activities. Besides investing in commercialization of ideas of entrepreneurs, project also supported them via various counselling services. Within this scope, we developed the Advisory Services and Networking component. TTA – Turkey Advisory Services, was a two –years project, managed by Technology Development Foundation of Turkey (TTGV) with the cooperation of Brifrance (FR) and Venture Well (US). It started at the end of 2015 and ended at the end of 2017. Within the framework of this project, we aimed to increase the technical capacity of TTOs in Turkey. We delivered various trainings, conducted acceleration programs, organized study visits, and shared the best practices. We implemented an exchange programme so that TTOs could benefit from. Therefore researchers from Turkey experienced how the TTOs abroad work. Besides that, we paved the way for the establishment of TUBITAK community in international EuroQuity Platform (www.euroquity.com) where investors and technology owner entrepreneurs meet.
In the closing meeting held on November, 14, 2017 in Istanbul, present situation and the results of the project were presented. For more detail information you can visit www.ttaturkey.org
